Does anyone know the chill hours at Dayboro/Lacey’s creek??? We are contemplating planting some apples, peaches, pears and not sure if we will be wasting our time.
Thanks to Jackson Produce I now have a definition on what that chill might be…..
Definition High & Low Chill
HIGH CHILL fruit trees grow in a climate that provide 650 plus hours below 7 degrees.
LOW CHILL fruit trees grow in a climate that provide only 150 to 450 Hours below 7 degrees.
Not sure if we reach those hours, but going to try anyway. Being a bit chair bound, due to foot injury sustained whilst capturing the Donovan’s sheep a few weeks ago (you are all familiar with that story), I am looking for things to do that do not require left-foot-right-foot activity.
What I was thinking doing is:
- Get all the times when the temperature is below 7 degrees.
- Sum them up to get the total hours.
- Create a message when the temperature drops below 7 degrees to display on the webpage (some where).
- Email alarm (which we already have) in respect to frost warning, weather warnings and the like.
