We are focused on improving home security, reducing the fear of crime and reporting suspicious activity to police. It has a strong and committed volunteer base and is well recognised and symbol within the community. It is open to all community members in Queensland. We are a not for profit organisation.
We rely on donations from residents, businesses and the community and grants.
We consist of Officer In Charge- Ken Robinson, Area Co-Ordinator- Jackie Wallace, Secretary – Janelle Riley, Treasurer – Daryl Collier and our wonderful volunteers.
We also rely on the support from the District Crime Prevention Coordinator. We actually work very closely with the Crime Prevention Unit.
We hold community awareness mornings with the assistance from the Petrie Crime Prevention Officers. These will be advertised well in advance.
We have NHW street signs throughout our District. My aim for 2017 is for residents and business to receive NHW letterbox/fence plaques.
I also hope to give all businesses in Town to have NHW rubbish bin stickers. To achieve this we will be holding regular “walk arounds” in the estates in Dayboro first.
Our volunteers will knock at resident’s houses and offer them a plaque. These plaques can be attached to the letter box or fence. For residents unable to attach these we will offer to this. These plaques will not prevent crime BUT will help to deter crime. We will advertise when and which estates we will be coming to.
The first estate for 2017 will be Millbrook Estate. We are hoping to have a sausage sizzle in a park near the estate, where we will have other NHW merchandise available.
We do not expect everyone to come along to meetings (but all are welcome) or to get involved in our activities because people can participate in the comfort of their own homes.
This can be done online or when people are out and about.
Of course if anyone should happen to see a crime committed this should be reported to the Police.
An easy way to know who to call:
- IF IT IS HAPPENING NOW – DIAL 000
- FOR ALL OTHER NON-URGENT INCIDENTS – DIAL 131 444
DAYBORO POLICE STATION IS NOT ALWAYS OPERATIONAL SO PLEASE DON’T PHONE THE STATION AND LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH SERIOUS REPORTS.
When Ken and Paul are not on duty our area is covered by Petrie Police Officers.
We have 6 meetings per year. These meetings are informal and everyone is very welcome to attend.
We have guest speakers at some of our meetings too. If there is any area of policing that you may be interested in please give me a call on the number below and we can possibly arrange a speaker. (Events and rosters play a large part in obtaining speakers, as the officers come in their own free time)
We also provide engravers free of charge for residents to engrave their property.
